What is Bright Sparks Trust?

Brights Sparks Trust supports bright, hard-working children from vulnerable backgrounds to break the poverty cycle. Our vision is that students from vulnerable backgrounds have the same opportunities as other students to learn and realize their full potential in life. Our support starts at secondary school and continues at university.

This website is available to prospective university students to learn about our scheme, submit applications for our Book Prize, send progress reports to Bright Sparks, request funding each semester, and interact with the wider community of Bright Sparks Scholars for mutual support. We are building a community of bright needy students that will change their lives, support their families, and adopt important roles in Malawian society, and it is valuable for you to support each other in this life changing endeavour!

The scheme is available to former Bright Sparks Secondary School Scholars who have secured a place at select top tier universities that are part of the Malawian government educational system. Our support is designed to complement the tuition fee and upkeep loans and grants provided by the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board by providing students with prize money for learning materials such as laptops, books and stationery.

How It Works

How it Works

Eligible students apply for a Book Prize through this website only. The application page guides students on how to ensure all the necessary information and materials are submitted. Applications are not competitive, and the number of Prizes is not capped. All students that meet the eligibility criteria and who submit the necessary documentation in the correct manner will receive a financial Prize every term for their full university program, subject to passing their exams each semester, upholding good conduct and keeping Bright Sparks informed of their progress. The financial support is a fixed amount, dispersed each semester, and does not need to be repaid.

We ask you to share this information with other Bright Sparks scholars that you studied with, remember this is not a competitive process, everyone that is eligible will receive a Book Prize.

It is our hope that once earning, Bright Sparks scholars will pay forward their support and donate funds to Bright Sparks equivalent to the costs of one student studying from secondary school through to university.
